Color Palette without mixing

In this month's Color Palette, I combined some of my favorite pigments, so there is no color mixing involved.  It's an autumn Palette with a twist. The reds, yellows, and browns are part of the classical list. When we add this light blue color, we create a fresher combination.

I imagined this blue to be the sky on a clear and sunny autumn day.

All Colors are by Winsor & Newton:

  • Cerulean Blue (red shade)

  • Winsor Red Deep

  • Indian Yellow

  • Burnt Sienna

  • Perylene Green

My go to watercolor paints are the professional watercolors from Winsor & Newton

I recently tested two watercolor paints with different price points. To have a second test between Winsor & Newton and van Gogh, I recreated this Palette with the van Gogh professional watercolor paints.

Left you see Winsor & Newton, and right van Gogh. Again, to me, the pricier paints look more natural, especially the blue. But you certainly can recreate these colors with the cheaper option.

If you search for a short creative break today, you can recreate this palette with whatever watercolor paints you have. Trying to match the colors is a great exercise!

When you have a bit more time, paint a fall scene with this color combination.
